David and his daughter Rain

The blessing of being a dad

Having my daughter Rain is a true blessing. It seems that everyday through her, I learn more about life and how it truly works...

My daugher grabbed me this afternoon and asked if I could help her. She wanted to go upstairs to put some "nice shoes" on. As I got her "nice shoes" from her closet, she then asked me to put on a "pretty dress" so I opened the closet again and she picked out the "pretty dress." As I was dressing her, I noticed the smile on her face and how her eyes lit up when her daddy was taking care of her. She grabbed my hand and headed downstairs to our living room. She went to the music controls on the wall like a kid in a candy store to listen to her favorite song. She turned around and said "Papa would dance with me?" My heart melted as I grabbed her and we started to dance; her head on my chest and my head turned the other way with tears coming down my face.

Is this the biggest gift God could have ever given me? Would I have missed this moment if I didn't give my daughter the time of the day? How many dads out there don't get the chance to feel the bliss that I just experienced? Can we learn to juggle our daily responsibilities to make sure we can experience those special moments with our kids?

Best,

David Charvet
